Thunder Bay Police Service officers were concluding an Eco-Superior Spring Up to Clean Up community event Wednesday evening at the Mary J L Black Library when witnesses approached to report a break-in and theft that had just occurred nearby.

The witnesses approached officers just after 7 p.m. to report three youths had just boasted about breaking in to St. Martin’s School and stealing iPads. The accused youths fled the area, but the young witnesses quickly approached officers to report the break in.

Officers with the TBPS Uniform Patrol division were contacted and began an investigation based on the information provided by the witnesses.

As a result of the ongoing investigation, officers located two female suspects in a back lane on Heath Street. The suspects were not in possession of iPads, but did have several iPad charging cords.

Investigators searched the area and found 11 iPads covered in leaves in the yard of a nearby residence.

The two teen girls will appear in court Thursday. Their names are being withheld in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

A third youth suspect has been identified by investigators.
