Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of an incident that occurred at an outdoor swimming pool over the weekend.

Emergency services personnel, including Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response branch, responded to the Art Widnall Pool on Minnesota Street just after 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 13, after receiving reports of a youth male in medical distress.

The male was attended to at the scene by pool staff and paramedics. The male was transported to hospital by paramedics and has since been transported to a medical facility in southern Ontario for further treatment.

Members of the Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Unit have become involved in the ongoing investigation.

While the public concern generated by this incident is understood, speculation that has emerged online has the potential to interfere with the investigation. Investigators have been working diligently to conduct a fair and thorough investigation, which includes speaking to several witnesses and documenting the scene.
