Police have arrested and charged a Thunder Bay man and a Pickering man in connection with a Friday afternoon shooting on Cumming Street.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response Branch were originally dispatched to the 200 block of Cumming Street just before 5 p.m. on Friday, March 31 following reports of an apparent shooting incident that had just occurred.
Paramedics with the Superior North EMS were also dispatched to that address. An adult male victim was transported to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment of their injuries.
The victim had injuries consistent with gunshot wounds, however, they are not believed to be life-threatening.
Members of the Major Crimes and Forensic Identification Units are now part of the ongoing investigation.
Two suspects were eventually identified.
Primary Response Branch officers, who were in the area as a response to the shooting, observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was conducted, and officers discovered the passenger and driver were the two identified suspects connected to the shooting.
They were taken into custody and transported to the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.
Jeffrey MORTEN, 46, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:
• Attempt to Commit Murder using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm
Jaiden SMITH, 23, of Pickering, Ont., is charged with:
• Attempt to Commit Murder using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm
Both appeared in bail court in Thunder Bay on Saturday, April 1 and were remanded into custody with future appearance dates.
The investigation remains ongoing and police continue to hold a scene in the area.
