The Thunder Bay Police Service has laid new charges against one of four arrested following a recent disturbance involving a firearm after learning an accused male impersonated Demitri Austin GREEN.

An investigation has revealed the accused male’s real identity is Jatorri WILLIAMS, 19, of Toronto, and he used the identity of GREEN to obstruct police and avoid prosecution of other offences.

Officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were originally dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of Pearl Street just before 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20 following reports of a disturbance. The disturbance was believed to involve a break in and a firearm.

Suspects fled the area before police arrived on scene.

When police arrived they began an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this alleged incident.

As a result of the ongoing investigation – which also involved members of the service’s Major Crimes Unit, K9 Unit, Forensic Identification Unit and Intelligence Unit – police identified and located suspects connected to the Sunday incident.

Four suspects, who were in a motor vehicle together, were taken into custody following a high-risk arrest in the zero-to-100 block of Lake Street in the early afternoon hours of Monday, Oct. 21.

Police located a hand gun inside the vehicle. During the arrests one of the male suspects provided a name to police that further investigation revealed to be a false identity. It was not known at this time that WILLIAMS was also providing officers with a false identity.

The four accused appeared in court Tuesday and were remanded into custody at the district jail with future appearance dates.

New charges have now been filed against WILLIAMS:

• Personation With Intent to Avoid Prosecution
• Possession of Firearm/ Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order

Williams also faces charges resulting from the original incident, which are:

• Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
• Unauthorized Possession of Firearm Licence
• Tamper with Serial Number of Firearm
• Prohibited or Restricted Firearm With Ammunition
• Possession of Weapon Obtained by Crime
• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose

• Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Mischief Under $5,000
• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Weapon
