One of the drivers involved in a three-vehicle collision on the city’s north side Wednesday afternoon has been charged with careless driving.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers, Fire Rescue firefighters, and Superior North EMS paramedics were all dispatched to the corer of Court and River Streets just after 3:05 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12 following reports of a three-vehicle collision.

One of the vehicles involved was a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle, a 57-year-old Thunder Bay man, was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for further evaluation and treatment of their injuries.

He remains in the hospital with serious injuries, however, they are not believed to be life-threatening.

Members of the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Traffic Unit are now involved in the ongoing investigation.

Through their investigation, police learned the 47-year-old male driver of an SUV was travelling northbound on Court Street when they failed to stop for a red light at the River Street intersection.

The SUV then collided with the motorcycle driver in the intersection. Following the initial collision, the SUV then came into contact with a second SUV that was travelling southbound and had stopped for the red light.

The driver of the northbound SUV is now charged with Careless Driving Causing Bodily Harm and has a court date in June.
