Police have arrested and charged four people connected to reported sightings of firearms.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were originally dispatched to the zero-to-100 block of Cumberland Street North just after 4:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 27 following reports of a group who may have been in possession of firearms.

Police arrived and almost immediately located four males who were likely connected to the original call for service.

Police spoke to one of the four males and confirmed that he was illegally in possession of a firearm, at which point he was arrested at the scene. A second male was also arrested for a firearms-related offence.

As the two men were being arrested, the other two suspects fled on foot in separate directions.

Both were located in the area later that morning.

Further investigation revealed that the group of males had been in a hallway at the Midtown Inn earlier that morning where they were observed brandishing what appeared to be two firearms.

Both firearms observed have since been seized by police.

A 17-year-old and 20-year-old from Toronto, and a 19-year-old and 30-year-old from Thunder Bay are all being charged with a number of weapons-related offences. They are all expected to appear in bail court on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

More information may be released following that appearance.

A section of Pearl Street closed off by police during this investigation has been re-opened.
