A youth faces several charges after a midnight ride on a motorized bike.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response branch were dispatched to George Burke Park at about 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18, after receiving reports of a motorized bike being driven erratically.

A male suspect failed to stop for responding officers and drove away. Officers did not pursue the suspect.

Later, other officers observed an individual and bike matching the suspect description weaving through traffic and driving on sidewalks in the area of Arthur Street and Catherine Street.

The suspect then collided with a stopped police cruiser. The suspect briefly fled on foot before being located and arrested.

Members of the Traffic Unit are also involved in the investigation. A section of Arthur Street has been closed as a result of the investigation. The roadway is expected to reopen in the afternoon.

A 17-year-old male from Thunder Bay is charged with Dangerous Operation x3, Flight from a Peace Officer, Failure to Remain, and Impaired Operation of a Vehicle. The identity of the accused cannot be disclosed as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act. The accused had been under a 90-day driver’s licence suspension order.

The accused appeared in court on Wednesday and has been remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
