A southern Ontario man was arrested and charged with drug-trafficking related offences after police responded to a weapons call on the city’s south side Thursday afternoon.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to a residential address in the 300 block of Brodie Street South just before 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16 following reports of a break-in by an armed male.

A responding officer with the Break and Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit arrived in the area and observed a male suspect jumping from an upper-floor window at a nearby home in the 200 block of May Street South. The male then attempted to flee from police on foot.

Additional units were informed about the suspect and his direction of travel. Officer located and arrested him nearby just after 4 p.m.

The suspect was found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine, paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking and a quantity of Canadian currency.

The accused was transported to the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.

Shyheim Levene-Malcolm, 21, of Richmond Hill, Ont., is charged with:

• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
• Obstruct Peace Officer

He appeared in bail court on Friday, Sept. 17 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
