Police on Tuesday arrested a woman who attacked a retail store employee with bear mace during a theft on March 23.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response Branch were dispatched to the Value Village at 915 Memorial Avenue at about 9:20 p.m. on March 23 following reports of a robbery involving bear spray.

When officers arrived, they learned a female suspect attempted to steal clothing from the business. When staff approached the woman, the accused refused to return the clothing, attacked one of the employees with bear spray, and fled on foot with stolen clothing.

Members of the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Break and Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit became involved with the ongoing investigation.

The investigation led to the identification of a suspect.

Police officers located and arrested the accused just before noon on Tuesday, April 18.

She was transported to the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.

Haylee Marie DONALDSON, 29, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:

• Robbery with Weapon

She appeared in bail court on Wednesday, April 19 and was released with conditions and a future appearance date.
