Thunder Bay Police Service officers are investigating an incident that occurred in a grocery store parking lot in the 1,000-block of Dawson Road just before 5 p.m. on Monday, July 29.
Officers at that time were dispatched to a reported theft. Through the course of their investigation, police learned a woman was loading groceries into her vehicle in the Safeway parking lot when a white vehicle approached. A male exited the driver’s side of the vehicle, approached the woman’s cart and attempted to snatch the woman’s purse.
The male fled and returned to the vehicle he was driving. The woman reached into the accused male’s vehicle in an attempt to retrieve her purse, but the male drove away causing the woman to fall to the ground.
The accused male was then observed weaving through the parking lot toward an exit. The driver struck a male pedestrian just before exiting the parking lot and fleeing southbound on Strand Avenue.
Both the male and female sustained non-life threatening injuries, however, the male pedestrian did later attend the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.
