Incident Date

An investigation into an interaction between a Thunder Bay Police Service officer and a 17-year-old female dating back to December 1, 2018 has resulted in Police Services Act charges being laid against the involved officer.

The original incident was captured on video and widely shared on social media.   A media release issued by the Thunder Bay Police Service on December 3, 2018 included the following:

“On Saturday December 1, 2018 at 7:25 p.m., Thunder Bay Police officers responded to a call to assist paramedics regarding an injured adult female at a residence in the 400 block of Egan Street.  The woman was transported to hospital by Superior North EMS for non-life threatening injuries.  While on scene, an intoxicated 17-year-old female was located inside the residence.   While being readied for transport to hospital, a female Uniform Patrol officer is seen to be in physical contact with the youth.  A video showing a portion of the incident was captured and posted on social media.”

The officer has been charged with Unlawful or Unnecessary Exercise of Authority x2 under the Police Services Act.  The officer remains on leave.
