Police charged a suspect connected to an aggravated assault following a night where officers responded to multiple stabbings and other serious incidents.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to a residential address in the 100 block of May Street North just after 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16 following a reported weapons call.

When police arrived they located an injured male being treated by Superior North EMS paramedics. The male victim had injuries consistent with a stabbing.

Further investigation led police to locate a second victim, a 33-year-old female, who also appeared to have injuries consistent with a stabbing. Officers also identified a male suspect.

Police learned all three parties were known to each other and were returning home from a nearby bar when they became involved in an alteration, which was followed by the assault.

Officers located the male suspect, who attempted to provide police with a false name. The accused was arrested without further incident.

Russell Brayden MOONIAS, 21, is charged with:

• Aggravated Assault x 2
• Assault Causing Bodily Harm
• Obstruct Peace Officer

He appeared in bail court on Thursday, Sept. 17 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date of Monday, Sept. 21.

This was one of three stabbing incidents, two of which were two double-stabbing incidents, TBPS officers responded to Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Police responded to the evening’s first stabbing incident at about 9:50 p.m. on Tuesday in the 1000-block of Dawson Road. An investigation led police to locate two victims who had injuries consistent with a stabbing incident.

Officers were later dispatched to a residential address in the 200 block of Windsor Street at about 10:45 p.m. that same evening. There officers met a male victim who had injuries consistent with a stabbing. An investigation revealed the assault had taken place at another location.

The victims’ injuries were treated at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre.

It is believed the victims were all known to their attackers.

These investigations remain ongoing.
