An investigation into online sharing of child pornography has led to a local resident facing charges.
Investigators with the Thunder Bay Police Service Cyber Crime Unit began an investigation in September after receiving information that a local internet user was suspected of sharing files containing child sexual abuse material earlier this year.
A search warrant was executed at a local residence last month, with assistance from the Community Oriented Response and Engagement (CORE) Unit. An electronic device was seized for examination.
As a result of the investigation, an adult male was arrested on Tuesday, November 5.
Austin RILETT, 31, of Thunder Bay, is charged with Possession of Child Pornography and Accessing Child Pornography.
The accused appeared in court on Tuesday and has been remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
