A Thunder Bay Police Service officer was in the 200 block of Brodie Street after completing an assault investigation just before 10 p.m on Monday, Aug. 12.
A male pedestrian unrelated to that investigation approached and bumped into the fender of the officer’s cruiser. After identifying himself as a police officer the male attacked him without warning, striking him in the face.
The male then fled after the officer told him he would be arrested for assault.
After a brief foot pursuit the male was apprehended in the 100 block of Brodie Street. The arrest was completed without further incident after a brief struggle.
The officer required stitches for a cut on his nose as a result of the assault.
A 23-year-old Thunder Bay man has been charged with Assaulting a Peace Officer, Resisting Peace Officer.
He was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, Aug. 13.
