Thunder Bay Police Service officers responded to reports of a suspicious male just after 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 28 at a residence on Wentworth Crescent.

When officers arrived to investigate, the male in question became irate and remained inside the bedroom of his residence. Officers were allowed inside the home by another occupant, but the male remained uncooperative.

Officers learned the man could be in possession of weapons and became concerned for the safety of the general public. When officers entered the bedroom the male became combative and struck one officer twice in the arm with a large steel baton.

The male remained combative, but officers were able to take him into custody.

A 50-year-old Thunder Bay man was charged with Assaulting a Peace Officer.

He was released on a Promise to Appear for a future court date.
