The Thunder Bay Police Service (TBPS) and the Northern Nishnawbe Education Council (NNEC) have jointly launched a new Student Safety Initiative.
This program has a single Thunder Bay Police Service officer seconded to the Northern Nishnawbe Education Council, dedicated to meet the needs of NNEC students. Having dedicated personnel builds and strengthens relationships to support student safety while serving as a valuable resource to assist students from northern remote communities as they make the transition to study while living off reserve.
The initiative was announced to the public during a media conference on Thursday.
Cst. Patrick Shoppoff was selected as the successful candidate following an internal competition and has been working in the new role since August. Cst. Shoppoff had most recently been a School Resource Officer for the city’s north side schools.
This program is the second of its kind for the Thunder Bay Police Service.
