An officer with the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Traffic Unit was in the area of May Street South near Southern Avenue when he observed a Jeep being driven southbound on May Street at a high rate of speed around 8:15 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14.
The officer was able to determine the driver was travelling at 108 km/h. The posted maximum speed limit on that roadway is 50 km/h.
The officer attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver of the Jeep complied without incident.
The driver, a 27-year-old Thunder Bay man, had his driver’s licence suspended and vehicle impounded for seven days as per Ontario’s stunt driving regulations.
He was also issued a speeding ticket for travelling 108 km/h in a posted 50 km/h zone.
The driver’s vehicle was towed from the scene and he is expected to appear in court in December.
