Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Uniform Patrol division were travelling southbound on Simpson Street just after 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 6 when they observed a motorist driving through a stop sign at the intersection of Simpson and Miles Streets.
The officer slammed their brakes to avoid a collision with the sedan, meanwhile the driver of the sedan completed their turn from Miles Street and began travelling northbound on Simpson Street.
Officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop near the corner of Finlayson and Simpson Streets, but the driver ignored the officers.
Moments later the vehicle came into collision with a parked Semi Trailer in the Loudon Bros parking lot near Pacific Avenue.
Through the course of their investigation, officers learned the driver was impaired by drug.
A 35-year-old Thunder Bay is charged with Flight from Peace Officer and Operation While Impaired by Drug.
He was released on a Promise to Appear for a future court date.
