A Thunder Bay man who brandishing a large kitchen knife while in the Intercity Mall area was arrested without incident Saturday evening.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response Branch were dispatched to the area of the Intercity Mall just before 5:20 p.m. on Saturday, June 17 following reports of a person brandishing a knife.

When officers arrived in the area, they observed an adult male suspect wielding a large knife.

Officers approached the male, demanded he drop the knife, and took him into custody without further incident.

While in custody, the accused attempted to provide officers with a false name. Further investigation positively identified the suspect.

The accused was transported to the Thunder Bay Police Service headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.

Peter Timothy MAMAKWA, 26, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:

• Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
• Obstruct Peace Officer

He appeared in court on Sunday, June 18, and was released with conditions and a future appearance date.
