A local man has been arrested and charged with child pornography related offences as the result of an ongoing investigation by the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Cyber Crime Unit.
Detectives originally received a complaint from company officials of a social media messenger service in March of 2018.
From that complain investigators identified a suspect and executed a search warrant on a south-side home on Nov. 26, 2018. Various devices were seized as a result of that search.
Detectives began attempting to make contact with the accused to encourage him to turn himself in. The accused did turn himself in to police around 1 p.m. Monday, March 4 after being prompted to do so by detectives.
Matthew William Lovering, 32, of Thunder Bay, is charged with Luring a Child, Accessing Child Pornography, Making Sexually Explicit Material Available to a Minor.
He appeared in court this morning remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
