Thunder Bay Police Service officers responded to reports of a motor-vehicle collision involving a police cruiser just before 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13.

Officers arrived to observe that a Thunder Bay Police Service SUV and a four-door sedan had been involved in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 61 between Arthur Street and the Harbor Expressway.

After questioning all parties involved, the officers learned that the driver of the sedan had suddenly conducted a U-turn and came into contact with the police SUV.

OPP officers arrived at the scene at the request of the Thunder Bay Police Service officer.

During the investigation, officers became suspicious that the driver of the sedan may have been impaired by drug. The driver admitted to smoking cannabis earlier.

A standardized field sobriety test of the driver was conducted.

The OPP later charged the driver with Impaired Operation by Drug. The OPP continues to investigate the motor vehicle collision.

Minor injuries were sustained as a result of this collision. The TBPS vehicle involved sustained significant damage.
