Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Uniform Patrol division were dispatched to check on the welfare of a man who appeared to be sleeping in his vehicle in the Grenveille Avenue and Lillian Street area just before 7:30 a.m. on Friday, June 28.

When officers arrived they located a male who appeared to be sleeping in his vehicle with the ignition running.

Officers noticed the male showed multiple signs of impairment. A Standardized Field Sobriety test was conducted, the results of which led to his subsequent arrest. He was then brought to the Thunder Bay Police Service headquarters for further testing by a Drug Recognition Expert.

As a result of the officers’ ongoing investigation they located in the vehicle: paraphernalia consistent with smoking cannabis; paraphernalia consistent with smoking methamphetamine; a suspected stolen driver’s licence; Two suspected stolen debit cards.

A female passenger was subsequently arrested for possession of property obtained by crime.

Officers also located a rifle in the rear seat of the vehicle. Neither the vehicle’s driver nor passenger had a firearm licence.

A 43-year-old male of no fixed address is charged with Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, Possession of Stolen Credit Card x 2, Probation Order Non Compliance.

A 35-year-old Saskatoon woman is charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000, Poesseion of Stolen Credit Card x 2, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm.

Both are expected to appear in court Saturday.
