Members of the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Primary Response Branch were dispatched to the area of Barrie Drive and Highway 588 at about 8:20 p.m. on Saturday, July 22 following reports of a motor vehicle collision. Paramedics with the Superior North EMS were also dispatched to the scene.
Police learned a motorist driving a pickup truck had entered the ditch and collided with a tree. When officers approached the driver, they observed signs of impairment.
The driver was arrested and transported to the TBPS headquarters where a sample of her breath confirmed a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit.
The driver was charged with:
• Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired
• Operation of a Motor Vehicle While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration (80 plus)
The name of the accused is being withheld at this time as the charges have not been formally sworn before the courts. The motorist was an off-duty Thunder Bay Police Service officer and is not on active duty at this time.
As this matter is to appear before the courts, the Thunder Bay Police Service cannot comment further.
