Police arrested a Thunder Bay man following an apparent unprovoked attack on a fast food restaurant employee Sunday afternoon.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response Branch were dispatched to the Wendy’s restaurant at 950 Memorial Avenue just after 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 26 following reports of an assault that had just occurred.

Officers learned the victim was a staff member and the accused had reportedly shouted at them to go back to their own country during the altercation.

When officers arrived they quickly located and arrested an accused male without incident.

The accused was transported to the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.

Through their investigation, officers learned the accused male had approached staff behind the counter, and shouted at them before attacking one of the employees.

The incident is expected to be reviewed for potential hate motivation.

Roger Jermaine KEESICK, 43, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:

• Assault
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order x 2

He appeared in bail court on Monday, March 27 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
