Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch observed a vehicle travelling northbound on Franklin Street when the driver failed to stop at a stop sign at Miles Street just before 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 9.
Police attempted to conduct a traffic stop, at which point the driver slowed briefly before fleeing at a high-rate of speed, travelling south on Vickers Street South and failing to stop at a red light on Arthur Street.
Police discontinued efforts to stop the vehicle due to concerns for public safety.
Other officers on patrol observed the same vehicle and driver a short time later, but again the driver fled.
An investigation identified the suspected driver, and members of the Anishinabek Police Service arrested the accused sometime before 1 a.m.
Raymond Edward LEGARDE, 35, of Fort William First Nation, is charged with Flight from a Peace Officer x 2, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Comply with a Judicial Release, and Breach of Probation.
