Police arrested the driver of a vehicle that took a trip onto Lake Superior ice.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers were dispatched to the Mission Island Marsh Conservation Area on the evening of Friday, March 14, after receiving reports that a vehicle had driven off the roadway.

Responding officers found a vehicle had left the parking lot and came to rest along rocks on the shore of Lake Superior.

Officers spoke to the driver of the vehicle and observed signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and taken into custody for further evaluation.

The vehicle was removed from the lake and will be held for seven days.

A 27-year-old woman has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Vehicle and Dangerous Operation of a Vehicle.

The accused was released on an undertaking with a future appearance date.
