When you roll into a school zone, are you being a creep?
The Thunder Bay Police Service today released a new Back to School PSA. The Don’t Be a Creep PSA is a video produced by the Thunder Bay Police Service with assistance from the City of Thunder Bay and crossing guards. It tackles one of the most common issues crossing guards have while conducting their duties.
Creeping is the act of a motorist inching forward at a stop sign or stop light in anticipation of being able to proceed. It is a fairly common habit at stop lights, but something motorists also do regularly while waiting for crossing guards to lead children safely across a roadway.
Crossing guards, and students crossing roadways, often become alarmed by creepers. While you may be aware that you are not proceeding, the crossing guards and students crossing are not aware of your intentions. From their perspective, a driver is not paying attention and is about to run through the crossing guard’s stop sign.
Help make school zones a safe and comfortable place for students and crossing guards. Obey posted speed limits, drive with extra caution, and when you approach a crossing guard stop and remain stopped until all children have safely crossed the roadway.
Stop means stop; Don’t be a creep!
