Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service’s Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to the parking lot of a restaurant on Waterloo Street following reports of possible intoxicated individuals in a vehicle.
Officers arrived to the Tim Hortons parking lot where a 911 caller had spotted two people who had difficulty walking enter a green van on Monday, Sept. 2, just after 3:30 p.m. There was concern that the possibly impaired individuals would be driving.
When officers approached the van described by the witness, they observed a woman in the driver’s seat. After speaking with the woman they noticed multiple signs that were likely linked to impairment by drugs.
As a result the driver was taken into custody for Impaired Control of a Conveyance.
The accused was transported to the Thunder Bay Police Service headquarters for further screening by a qualified Drug Recognition Evaluator. As a result of that screening, the accused was confirmed to be impaired by drugs.
A 48-year-old Thunder Bay woman is charged with Operation While Impaired by Drugs. She was released on a Promise to Appear with a future court date.
