Police have arrested a suspect after a pair of local businesses were broken into and had vehicles stolen.

On Thursday, August 15, the Thunder Bay Police Service received a report of a break-and-enter at a commercial address on the 1200 block of Carrick Street.

The individual had entered the business compound and stole a pickup truck and attached trailer carrying a personal watercraft, driving through the gate to exit the property. The truck was found heavily damaged later that day. The trailer and watercraft were also recovered.

On the morning of Friday, August 23, police received a report of a break-and-enter that occurred overnight at a business on the 1100 block of Russell Street.

The suspect broke into the business compound and an office, stealing a pickup truck and other equipment. The suspect damaged the gate to escape.

Members of the Break and Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit became involved in the investigations and determined the same individual was responsible for both incidents.

Officers located an individual matching the suspect’s description, along with the suspected stolen vehicle, on the afternoon of Friday, August 23. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

Matthew BOMBERRY, 42, of Iroquois Falls, Ont., is charged with the following:
• Break and Enter to Commit an Indictable Offence x2
• Mischief Over $5,000 x2
• Theft of Motor Vehicle x3
• Theft over $5,000
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000
• Resisting Arrest

The accused appeared in court on Saturday, August 24, and has been remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
