The Thunder Bay Police Traffic Department is reminding motorists to slow down and give themselves more travel time as students are returning to school.
Beginning next week, children across the City will be returning to school. Our roads are sure to be much busier and pedestrian traffic will also be greatly increased near school zones. Drivers are asked to ensure they are traveling at or below the maximum posted speed limit and to pay close attention to the roadway in front of them. A brief moment of inattention or travelling at even a few kilometers above the speed limit can be the cause of a collision with lifelong implications.
To ensure motorists are obeying the traffic laws near school zones, traffic officers will be out monitoring traffic and zero tolerance will be given to offenders. Give yourself extra time, pay attention and slow down to ensure our children can have a safe start to the school year.
