Thunder Bay Police officers responded to reports of an attempted theft at an ATM at the Royal Bank of Canada on Arthur Street East just after 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2019.
When officers arrived on scene they observed a suspect damaging the bank’s drive-thru Automated Teller Machine. The three suspects attempted to flee the area when police arrived, but all were arrested within minutes following a foot pursuit.
Through the course of their investigation, responding officers learned the three individuals had caused significant damage to the front and inside of the drive-thru ATM in an attempt to steal the money stored within.
Three males, an 18-year-old, 22-year-old and a youth, all of Thunder Bay, were arrested and charged with Mischief Over $5,000 and Attempted Theft. The youth and 18-year-old were both released with a future court date.
The 22-year-old accused male is being held in custody pending a court appearance tomorrow.
