Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to a residential address in the 200-block of Violet Street following reports of a disturbance at about 3:30 a.m. on Friday, May 29. 

When officers arrived they learned the altercation had concluded and parties involving had left the area prior to their arrival. 

Officers were able to locate two individuals involved in the original incident, one of whom provided police with a false name. 

As a result of their investigation, police were able to positively identify the male who provided them with a false name. The investigation also revealed this person was a suspect in an assault that had occurred in the same area on Thursday, May 28 just after 1 a.m. 

Police learned the accused became involved in a verbal altercation with another male during this Thursday incident.  When the argument began to escalate, the victim went inside their apartment. The accused followed, went inside the apartment via forced entry, threatened and assaulted the victim. 

Police arrested the accused male. 

Steven William CHAPMAN, 25, is charged with Assault, Breaking and Entering, Uttering Threats, and Obstruct Peace Officer. 

He appeared in bail court on Friday, May 29 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date of Monday, June 1.
