Police on Thursday located and arrested a male suspected of robbing a southside business with a knife and crudely made Molotov cocktail in February.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Primary Response Branch were dispatched to a business in the 200 block of McKellar Street just after 11:10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25 following reports of an armed robbery that had just occurred.
When police arrived they learned a male suspect had entered the McKellar Confectionary, produced a knife that he pointed toward staff. He then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Members of the Break and Enter and Robbery (BEAR) Unit became involved in the ongoing investigation.
Police later learned that, in addition to a knife, the accused also attempted to use a crudely crafted Molotov cocktail during the armed robbery.
Through continued investigation, police positively identified a male suspect.
The accused was located and arrested without further incident by members of the BEAR Unit in the afternoon hours of Thursday, March 2.
Miles Scott ALANEN, 57, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:
- Robbery with Weapon
- Disguise with Intent
- Place or Throw and Explosive Substance
- Assault with a Weapon
He appeared in bail court on Friday, March 3 and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
