The Thunder Bay Police Service has received complaints relating to hot dog wieners with sharp objects inserted into them being intentionally placed where family pets may consume them.
An officer with the Uniform Patrol Branch was dispatched to the 200 block of Perth Crescent just after 7:50 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 21 following reports a dog ingested a piece of hotdog meat that appeared to have sharp objects inserted into it.
Further investigation revealed homeowners had located several pieces of hotdog meat that had been tampered with and placed in their yards.
The area was searched but no other suspicious items were located, however, further investigation revealed similar complaints regarding hotdogs with sharp objects inserted in them had been discussed on social media. These complaints indicated similar incidents in the areas of Perth and Lanark Crescents.
Police ask if you live in these areas to carefully check your properties for suspicious items. Keep a close watch on your pets while they are outdoors, as the objects may be hidden in the snow and hard to see, but still easy for your pet to smell and locate.
