The Thunder Bay Police Service has made an arrest in connection with an aggravated assault investigation from the weekend.
Thunder Bay Police Service officers were originally dispatched to a reported assault at the Moose and Goose, located at 698 Arthur Street West, just after 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 1.
Through an investigation police learned the male victim was standing outside the bar when he was approached by four individuals.
The victim and the group had all been inside the bar prior, but were not known to one another.
The group became hostile and a security guard for the bar intervened on several occasions in an attempt to de-escalate the encounter. Other bar patrons also intervened in an attempt to defuse the situation.
Once on the sidewalk area, an individual from the group of four approached and assaulted the lone male victim. A second person from that group approached and continued the assault before other patrons intervened to stop it.
The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of serious but non-life threatening injuries.
As the result of the ongoing investigation, police identified a suspect involved in the assault. The accused turned himself in to police in the evening hours of Monday, June 3.
A 39-year-old Thunder Bay man is now charged with Aggravated Assault. He is expected to appear in court Tuesday.
The investigation is ongoing.
