Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Uniform Patrol Branch were dispatched to the 1100 block of Centre Avenue following reports of an assault in progress just before 10 a.m. on Wednesday Aug. 28.

Officers arrived to find the victim still at the scene. As the result of their investigation police learned the male victim was walking in the area of Centre Avenue and Francis Street when he heard a loud truck speeding toward him. The victim was forced to jump out of the way of the vehicle to avoid a collision.

The male driver, who was known to the victim, exited the truck with a female. The male and female accused began striking the victim with what was described as a “bat-like object.” The accused male also made threats to the victim during this assault.

The male and female accused then returned to their vehicle and fled the area.

The male victim was treated for minor injuries by paramedics at the scene.

On the afternoon of Thursday, Aug. 29 an officer made a traffic stop after observing a motorist speeding.

The driver was identified as the accused from the Centre Avenue assault. The accused was also confirmed as being a suspended driver.

Francis THIBEAULT, 39, of Oliver Paipoonge, is charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Assault and Uttering Threats.

He appeared in bail court Friday and was remanded into custody with a future appearance date.
