The Thunder Bay Police Service would like to remind the public that if they accidentally call 9-1-1, to please stay on the line to let the operator know the call was unintentional.
The 9-1-1 operators with the TBPS have received an apparent increase in ‘pocket dials’ recently. The rise could be a result of newer phones, especially the most recent iPhone models, featuring an easier-to-use emergency call function.
It is critical that you stay on the line during an accidental 9-1-1 so the call taker can be made aware that there is no ongoing emergency situation. Otherwise, police resources will be used to investigate the dropped call, potentially taking valuable time away from real emergencies.
