Police arrested five people, and seized cocaine and cash, after the search of two southside homes Saturday morning.

Thunder Bay Police Service officers with the Intelligence Unit executed a pair of search warrants on Saturday, April 1. One warrant was executed at a residential address in the 900 block of Syndicate Avenue South at about 10 a.m. that day. The second warrant was executed at a residential address in the 2100-block of McGregor Avenue shortly afterwards.

The search warrants were obtained as a result of an ongoing investigation into drug trafficking activity at those locations.
Following both searches, police located and seized a significant quantity of suspected cocaine, cash, and paraphernalia consistent with drug trafficking.

Five suspects connected to this investigation were arrested. One male attempted to flee on foot from arresting officers at Syndicate Avenue, but was found a short time later in the Christina Street area.

The estimated street value of drugs seized totals nearly $135,000. Currency seized totals more than $16,500 CAD.
The three suspects were taken into custody and transported to the TBPS headquarters at 1200 Balmoral Street.

Joshua Savannah CUTHBERT, 25, of Victoria, BC, is charged with:

Steven Alexander MAITLAND, 35, of Brampton, Ont., is charged with:

• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

Valerie Anne SWAN, 55, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:

• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

Steven TIBONI, 61, of Thunder Bay, is charged with:

• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

A 17-year-old male from Brampton, Ont., is charged with:

• Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

The identity of the 17-year-old accused is being withheld in accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

TIBONI was released from custody with conditions and a future appearance date. The other three accused appeared in bail court on Sunday, April 2 and were remanded into custody with future appearance dates.
