One weekend into the Thunder Bay Police Service's Festive RIDE season, and officers are already seeing the increased impact of cannabis on impaired driving.

Area police services joined forces Thursday afternoon to officially launch the 2018 Festive RIDE season.

A ceremonial kickoff event took place in front of the Mac’s Convenience store on Arthur and Franklin Streets. Police services taking part in the Festive RIDE program include the Anishinabek Police Service, CP Police, CN Police, Nishnawbe-Aski Police Service, Ontario Provincial Police and the Thunder Bay Police Service.

Traffic Stop Results in Multiple Charges

A traffic stop was initiated by an officer who observed a vehicle with no rear license plate in the area of Frederica Street and Brown Street just after 8:00 p.m. on November 13, 2018. The driver of the vehicle exited and began to run away.

The officer caught up to the male and attempted to arrest him. Other officers arrived on scene and the male was taken into custody. He was searched and officers located drugs, cash and a knife in his possession. A check of the CPIC system showed him to be a disqualified driver and on a few court orders.

Collision at Balmoral and Alloy causing traffic disruption

Thunder Bay Police along with other emergency services are currently at a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Balmoral and Alloy Drive.

The collision is affecting southbound traffic and Police are requesting drivers avoid the area and utilize other routes at this time.

Motor vehicle collision causes the death of a pedestrian

On October 29th, 2018, just after 8 pm, Thunder Bay Police responded to a motor vehicle collision which occurred on Fort William Road north of Mooney Street. Upon arrival, responding officers located a pedestrian on the roadway who was deceased as a result of the collision.

The Thunder Bay Police Traffic Unit was called to the scene to complete the investigation. The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was gathered.

Thunder Bay Police are requesting the public's assistance in avoiding Fort William Road while officers investigate a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.

The road will be closed for the investigation to continue until further notice.

Arrest made regarding recent fail to remain collision

Arrest made regarding the fail to remain collision at Ford St and Isabella St on August 21st

On the morning of August 27th, 2018, the Thunder Bay Police Traffic Unit made an arrest in regards to the fail to remain motor vehicle collision which occurred at Ford Street at Isabella Street on August 21st, 2018. The collision left a 60 year old Thunder Bay male with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Fail to remain motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle

On August 21st, 2018, at approximately 1220hrs, Thunder Bay Police were dispatched to the intersection of Isabella Street at Ford Street for a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcycle and a SUV. Upon arrival, officers found that the SUV had fled the scene.

The initial investigation has revealed that a dark coloured SUV was travelling west bound on Isabella Street and failed to stop for the stop sign at Ford Street, colliding with the motorcycle within the intersection.
