UPDATE: Scene Released for Weapons Call at Southern Avenue Bridge

The Thunder Bay Police Service has released the scene connected to a reported assault in the area of McMillan Street and Southern Avenue.

A scene was held and the public was asked to avoid the area as officers investigated the incident just before 3:30 p.m. on Friday, March 22. The scene was released in the evening hours later that day.

The investigation is ongoing.

Theft and Assault Arrest

Thunder Bay Police Service officers were dispatched to the Walmart on 1101 Arthur Street for a reported theft and an assault just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 13.

Investigating officers learned a male suspect entered the store and requested staff retrieve a gaming console from a locked cabinet. When the console was outside of the locked cabinet the accused attempted to exit the store without paying.

When confronted by a security guard the accused attempted to flee. He struck the security guard and assaulted another employee.

Assault with motor vehicle and robbery arrest

Thunder Bay Police Service officers arrested a female linked to an early Sunday morning assault with a motor vehicle and a separate armed robbery of a gas bar.

Paramedics were dispatched to the 300 block of University Drive just before 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 10, following reports a male had been struck by a motor vehicle. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

As a result of an ongoing investigation detectives were able to identify the driver.

Assault at Water Street overpass

Two Thunder Bay Police Service officers were travelling southbound along Water Street just before 3 p.m. Saturday when they observed what looked to be an assault in progress inside the Water Street overpass.

When officers arrived at the scene two females were continuing to assault a male victim inside the overpass.

Officers intervened and both accused women were placed under arrest after a brief struggle.

A passerby assisted officers as they completed the arrest.

Security guard charged with assault

Thunder Bay Police Service officers were dispatched to the Shoppers Drug Mart at 1186 Memorial Avenue just before 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 3 following reports of a theft.

During the investigation police learned that a possible assault linked to this incident may have occurred.
Police conducted multiple witness interviews and reviewed video footage of an altercation between a youth and a security guard.

Following this, and after reviewing other evidence, officers have charged the security guard with Assault Causing Bodily Harm.

Aggravated assault against senior, arrest

Officers with the Thunder Bay Police Service responded to a reported assault in the 200 block of McKellar Street South just after 6:30 p.m. on Monday Feb. 4, 2019.

When officers arrived they found a 62-year-old victim injured and sitting on a snow bank in front of his home. Police learned the victim has been attacked by an unknown person apparently at random.

The victim was transported to the hospital via ambulance for treatment of his injuries.

Officer assaulted, handgun and pills seized from accused

Thunder Bay Police officers attended reports of an unwanted person at the Victoria Inn at about 2:40 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

When officers arrived they informed the male, who did not have a room at the hotel, that he had to leave the premises.

The male refused and assaulted one of the responding officers, at which point the officers placed him under arrest. The male resisted, but after some struggle police were able to apprehend him.

Bus driver assaulted, accused arrested

An observant Thunder Bay Police Service officer was in the area of City Hall just before 10 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 28 when she saw an assault in progress.

A bus driver was walking northbound on May Street around this time when he was verbally accosted and then assaulted by a male. A female approached the accused immediately and pulled him away from the victim, at which point the accused attempted to flee the area on foot.

Assault Investigation

The Thunder Bay Police Service is looking for individuals who may have witnessed an assault that took place in the area of Highway 11/17 and Red River Road at approximately 1:00 am on December 15, 2018. 

The male victim was transported to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre for treatment of non life-threatening injuries. 

Officers assaulted while assisting with female in distress

Thunder Bay Police Service officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Pacific Avenue for reports of a female in distress shortly at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 6, 2018.

When officers arrived they found two intoxicated youths. One youth was deemed safe and returned home to a parent. The other youth was in a state of distress and said she feared for her wellbeing. She was transported to the hospital.
