The Thunder Bay Police is currently seeking a motivated individual to fill our temporary position of Community Outreach Social Navigation Coordinator.  Specific responsibilities shall include but not be limited to:

  • Connect to existing and new collaboratives to monitor, manage, develop, and implement education, training, and tools to support front line officers. The initiatives will include activities which engage upstream prevention and connection to outreach street level services.
  • Research training, and other police service approaches.
  • Coordinate and be a consistent presence at community tables such as Situation Table, Impact Steering Committee, and Social Navigation Table.
  • Maintain an operation connection within the Service to communicate internally and externally, providing officers with the tools and knowledge to refer individuals to the appropriate services, community table or collaboratives.
  • Explore collaborative street level community safety teams to address the most vulnerable in the community before crisis occurs.
  • Leveraging partnerships with street outreach agencies with services.
  • Produce detailed, accurate and comprehensive reports.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must possess a degree or diploma in Communication, Marketing, Business or a related field.  Three to five years of experience with outreach activities is preferred.  Proven interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner, including the ability to address issues in a professional and courteous manner.  Proven organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manager workload to meet deadlines and job-related expectations.  Demonstrated capacity to learn and utilize knowledge obtained about an organization to communicate, engage and connect a wide range of services to external clients and organizations. Proven ability to be created and to translate new ideas into practical workplace initiatives.  Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office related software to an accomplished level, including  Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat is essential.
